So I guess it has been over a month since I posted last. During that time, I was back in Minnesota for 9 days. I had a wonderful time at home. I got to do most of the things that I was wanting to do. I was busy the entire time. I saw a lot of my family, but unfortunately not a lot of my neighbors and friends. As most of you know, there was a huge snowstorm in the Midwest when I was back in Minnesota. What many of you don't know, is that there was a huge snowstorm here in Korea right when I got back.
The day after I got back home to Korea, we got the biggest snowstorm in about 100 years. Over the coarse of about a day we got 25.8 cm of snow, which is about 10 inches. No one alive today in Korea has seen anything like it. School was canceled that first Monday which was kind of nice. I hadn't really had a chance to relax and not do anything while I was in Minnesota, so it was nice to have a day to do that. The next morning, I got a call saying that the pipes in the school had frozen and burst, so we had no plumbing. As a result, I had another day off. On that Tuesday, I found a Costco to use my new membership. That was an adventure in itself. Since they don't normally get snow like this in Korea, they really have no way to deal with it. In the city, they had people out shoveling the roads off. A couple of times I saw backhoes clearing snows from the streets. It has taken two weeks, but they are just now getting everything cleared out.
As a result of missing two days of school, we have had to work the last two Saturdays. It has been absolutely exhausting playing the catchup game, and I will be glad when Friday comes this week and I will have a two day weekend.
I have also started working with my new Korean Tutor. I go to her house on Tuesdays and Thursdays after work, and they have kind of become my surogate family. They have a 6 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. Sometimes when I study with them, the son reads something in English and I read or say in in Korean. It is a lot of fun, but she is a tough teacher, and forces me to work hard.
Please take the time to participate in the poll on the right side of the page. My tutor says that everone in America refers to Koreans as bananas, which I had never heard in. She told me to ask around, so that is exactly what I am doing....
Hopefully I will post again soon. Miss everyone again already.
